Geoff Kaye : Discover_E

Geoff Kaye ( great guy and I tested out the Discover-E platform again today to determine new ways of engaging teams in using synchronous learning environments with learners…..that’s the premise anyways.

What we did was look at the upload features for Discover-E and the inherent media players which enable people in the virtual learning environment to share content and listen to colloborative pieces of information.

We also tested the MP3 recording capacity of the room which I think would be good for “interviews” with people far and wide…sharable, scalable and interactive visually.

The issues I faced were :

1. the fact that we both had differing recording levels ( mic. )

2. fluctuations in amplitude meant I had use use Audacity to “normalise” and to “amplify” his part of the recording for it to appear that we were speaking on the same level - volume.

Geoff came into the room from Western Australia and I was behind a tight firewall in Orange. That gives you some idea of distance and possibilities.

Tricky but achievable.

Have a listen to our recording and see what you think. I think you’ll agree the recording is very, very clear.

Very inspirational.

Knowledge Sharing Services research project
Presenters - Paula Johnston and Val Evans

Project URL:
http://www.flexiblelearning.net.au/kss/
'The Knowledge Sharing Services Project delivers widespread, efficient and timely access to knowledge and resources that support VTE e-learning practices, research and policy development. It promotes and makes accessible the extensive knowledge base that has been developed since the Framework's inception. In particular, in 2006 it will provide the capacity to leverage existing knowledge contained in VTE resource databases and support the mandating of standards for capturing and transferring knowledge across different contexts, including metadata and standards associated with the semantic web.'

Alex Hayes speaks with Bernadette about the SWSI Leadership Forum which is being held today in Liverpool training Centre TAFE NSW, Australia.

The SWSI Institute is looking to challenge the 'notion of good generic leaders' in 2007 - Barry Peddle, Institiute Director seeks to examine everything otherwise. This of course must be framed in the relevant discourse and context.......you make up your mind as Bernadette speaks of how this opportunity came about for SWSI.

Overview of the AFLF 'Access to Bandwidth' project
Presenter: Sam Meredith
(8:40mins; 7.93 mb)

The Access to Bandwidth Project will facilitate the establishment of jurisdictional connections to a common communication service provider, such as Australian Academic Research Network (AARNet). The service provider would provide a low cost option for sharing and communication between jurisdictions and provide a level of security not currently available over the internet.

More information about this project is available from the flexiblelearning.net.au/a2b page on this website.

This Project will support and leverage off other national VET initiatives, such as the Learning Objects Repository Project.

Alex Hayes speaks with Bill Wade about podcasting potential for students and teachers at SAE Byron Bay.

Project summary:

SAE Institute International (www.sae.edu) is a private provider of quality training and education for audio, multimedia, animation and digital film production. With a worldwide reputation as an industry leader, SAE’s primary focus through LearnScope is to maintain its leading position by further enhancing the teaching and learning experience for its teaching staff and students.

Central to this aim is the need to explore, identify and apply current and emerging e-learning trends and innovations (e.g., blogs, moblogs, podcasts, wikis, v-conferencing, toolboxes, EdNA, Moodle, Elgg, Elluminate) to SAE’s current repertoire, assuring a value-added business strategy through provision of a dynamic learning environment.
